Bloc Party - “Flux”

Sorry I’ve been a little absent the past few days.  We’ll try and correct this.

Bloc Party’s best stuff, in my opinion, has always been their guitar-based tracks.  Tracks that just stick the noodling guitar leads and stabbing rhythms in your head.  However, I do dig some of the more electronic stuff they’ve been doing in recent albums, and this particular track is a highlight.

“Flux” is an emotional track, even if it’s one of the most atmospherically distant songs they’ve written.  Pulsing electronic beats drive the majority of the song, with very little guitar save for some very high notes towards the end.  Kele’s voice is auto-tuned a la Kanye, but with a little more restraint; and that doesn’t stop his vocals during the climactic bridge to stop from soaring, pleading “We need to talk.”

Initially released as a single, this came as a bonus track on the North American version of Intimacy.  It’s good stuff, and one of my favorite tracks of the past few years.
