Late of the Pier - “Space and the Woods”
Late of the Pier are, for lack of a better term, fucking WEIRD. A most excellent hybrid of something like Wolfmother, Editors, and We Are Wolves, this particular group hails from Nottingham, and carries themselves with a particularly interesting swagger. The lyrics are relatively abstract and accented with thick English bravado in a baritone-ish melody. The synths squelch and pulse through the low end, and the chorus (if one can call it that) has a jerky, Gang of Four guitar line with a dancy backbeat.
A lot of people are calling their album Fantasy Black Channel, one of the top albums of the year. They jury’s still out for me on that, but the more I listen, the more I like for sure.
