Goodbooks - “The Curse of Saul”

Goodbooks is one of those bands that seemingly gets looked over a bunch.  They have a really interesting sound; tasteful use of programming (check that 8-bitish intro in the beginning; it sounds like something I would love to use), a quirky Editors/Bloc Party/Coldplay atmosphere, very intelligent lyrics (this particular track discusses the reign of King Saul from the perspective of his subjects, as you might imagine) and catchy vocal lines that aren’t pushed too far up in the mix as to destroy the mood.  This track also makes particularly good use of some semi-clean funk-ish guitar sounds.

Oh and the chorus is mind-boggingly catchy.

Yezzir.
