The Hold Steady - “Sequestered in Memphis”
I’m not entirely sure why it took me so long to appreciate the Hold Steady. I think I heard all the Springsteen comparisons and got turned off (I’m not a huge Springsteen fan, to be honest). But really, these guys live up to a lot of the hype they’ve been getting — the narratives they manage to tell through their songs kind of make them modern day bards, in a way. This song is a great example of that.
Also, thanks to this band I am now closer to understanding what someone means when they say a band is a “bar band,” heh.
